An Insider's Guide to Washington DC

As anyone who lives here will tell you, DC is a transient city. Over the years we have seen countless friends and neighbors pick up and move to places that offer a little more rest and relaxation than the District, and each year the hub and I look at each other and wonder if this will be the year we do the same. So far it hasn't been, but the option is never off the table. And with the possibility of this summer (and every summer for that matter) being the last we spend here, we're always trying to make the best of the time we have left.

That being said, I created a bucket list of sorts with all the things I want to see/do/eat in the city this summer. I started small because I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew, but I plan to add to this list as the summer goes on.

Without further ado, here are my top 7 insider's picks for a fun summer in the city:

Does anybody else start planning for Valentine's Day weeks in advance or is that just me? In DC you have to make plans early or come February 1st it's impossible to find reservations at any of the good restaurants (which is usually enough to get my butt in gear). But in case you're off to a slow start with the V-Day plans, here are 8 festive ways to bring back that loving feeling.

Low-Hanging Fruits: 4 Fresh Ways to Eat Avocados

An avocado a day keeps the doctor away. Or at least that's what I've been reading all over the internet lately. It turns out that avocados are better for you than anyone ever thought, and eating as many as 1 a day can drastically improve heart health, regulate blood sugar, and fight inflammation.

While I'm perfectly happy eating guacamole every day for the rest of my life, it might get a little boring for those of you who like a little more variety in your diets.

So here are 4 new ways to cook with avocados you may never have thought of before.

Pssst. Turns out how you peel that avocado matters. Science shows that the greatest concentration of vitamins and minerals is directly beneath the dark green skin, so it's best to peel your avocado just like you would peel a banana. After removing the seed, cut your avocado into fourths lengthwise and use your thumb and index finger to grip the edge of the skin on each quarter and peel it off. That should give you the most nutritional bang for you buck.

Pssssssssssst. Those chocolate avocado cookies look to die for. Amiright?
